This lecture-based undergraduate course in second-order partial differential equations covers topics such as wave equations, heat equations, and Laplace equations. Assessment is based on homework, midterm exam, and final exam. The course is open to undergraduate math students and math & statistics graduate students, with 5 seats reserved for Commonwealth Honors College students.

Outline:
- Course Content: The course covers the following topics:
- Introduction to and classification of second-order partial differential equations
- Wave equation, heat equation and Laplace equation
- D'Alembert solution to the wave equation
- Solution of the heat equation
- Maximum principle
- Energy methods
- Separation of variables
- Fourier series
- Fourier transform methods and operator eigenvalue problems
- (Time-permitting) Numerical methods for partial differential equations
- (Time-permitting) Select examples of nonlinear partial differential equations
- Course Structure: The course is a lecture-based course.
- Course Schedule: The course meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:30 PM to 3:45 PM in Lederle Grad Res Tower room 206.

- Homework
