The MSc (Hons) Mental Health and Wellbeing program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of factors impacting mental health and well-being, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to contribute positively to the field. Led by experienced psychologists and researchers, the program features a focus on theory, research methods, and practical applications. Graduates are prepared for careers in research, teaching, and applied settings, or further studies in specialized areas such as clinical psychology and counseling.

The program aims to provide a solid foundation in relevant theory and research, develop research methods skills, and cultivate an appreciation for real-world practice. The goal is to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to make a positive impact in the field of mental health and well-being.


Teaching:

The course is taught by a diverse team of experienced psychologists, including both academic and practitioner psychologists. The teaching staff specializes in areas such as mental health, psychological well-being, clinical psychology, life coaching, and counseling. The Division of Psychology is actively engaged in research related to mental health and well-being, including research across different cultural contexts. Teaching facilities include a dedicated laboratory and practical work areas, an observation suite, and a vision research laboratory.


Careers:

Upon completion of the course, graduates will be well-prepared for a range of career opportunities worldwide, including research, teaching, and applied settings. The program can serve as a stepping stone to specialized PhD study. While the course does not lead to a practitioner qualification, its content is highly relevant to those who aspire to pursue training in clinical psychology, psychotherapy, counseling, or coaching.


Other:

  • All on-campus students have the opportunity to participate in two short one-day inter-professional education (IPE) events within clinical and community contexts in Leicester and/or Leicestershire.
  • The program develops a critical understanding of the psychological theory and research that underpin the study of mental health and well-being.
  • Students can study by distance learning, allowing for professional development alongside work.
