Dundee's 3-year LLB in English Law prepares students for legal careers in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and common law jurisdictions worldwide. It satisfies the academic requirements for barristers in England and Wales, and provides a foundation for the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE). Graduates have also found success in non-legal fields, including diplomacy.

Degree Overview:

This course is recognised in common law countries that accept an English qualifying degree. You start this course with 120 credits which lets you complete your degree in three years. This course can be used as part of an accepted pathway into practice as a solicitor or a barrister in England and Wales. Careers:

Dundee graduates have also used their law degrees, and the transferable skills they have acquired, to achieve success in many other fields, including rising to the highest levels of the Diplomatic Service. Dundee’s 3 year LLB in English Law satisfies the academic component of training to become a barrister in England & Wales and is a recognised law degree for the purposes of admission to the Institute of Professional Legal Studies and qualification for the legal professions in Northern Ireland. The English Law LLB provides an excellent foundation for students who wish to take the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE) or indeed to qualify as lawyers in many common law jurisdictions globally. For example, each year Dundee graduates from Canada and Nigeria return home to complete their national legal practice qualifications.

Student societies The Dundee University Law Society is one of the biggest and most active societies on campus and helps build your Law network. The Dundee International Law Society is a student-led society that arranges seminars, debates, colloquia and presentations on international law problems and prospects. The Law Review is a publication run by students and reviewed by academics to ensure high academic standards. This is an ideal opportunity to gain legal editing and writing experience. Our Mooting society provides training and practice in advocacy. Each year members participate in national and international competitions, including at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. The Telders International Law Moot Court Competition provides an opportunity for law students with an interest in public international law to hone their skills in front of leading experts and compete against teams from across Europe.
