Degree Overview:

This foundation year acts as a bridge to degree-level studies in Health and Social Care. Successful completion guarantees a place on a BSc pre-registration health and social care course, including:

The program aims to:
• Develop independent study skills and a base for academic knowledge.
• Enhance self-confidence for a successful health and social care career through active participation, teamwork, and project work.
• Provide learning opportunities vital for successful entry into a BSc program.

Outline:

The program consists of six compulsory modules:

• Learning skills for Higher Education: This module focuses on acquiring and enhancing skills for academic success, including group work, teamwork, reflection, ICT skills, and identifying learning styles.
• Communication skills for health and social care professions: This module explores various communication methods used in health and social care interactions, different communication styles, and the role of professionals in effective communication.
• Skills needed for roles in health and social care: This module introduces students to the diverse range of Health and Social Care professions, their roles, and the importance of these areas in Health and Social Care.
It includes specialized teaching content relevant to each profession and interactive workshops in the London South Bank University Clinical Labs to demonstrate specific professional skills.
• Introduction to health and social care, systems and professions: This module provides foundational knowledge about health and social care provision and helps students develop the knowledge and skills to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
It explores aspects of biology and physiology.
• Promoting health and wellbeing: This module introduces students to concepts of health, healthy living, wellbeing, determinants of health, and underpinning health promotion.

• The School of Health and Social Care has links with over 70 health and social care providers in London and surrounding areas.
• The program provides access to a wealth of information and clinical experience to enhance student learning.
• The program is not currently open to international students.
• Students need to be 18 years or over at the commencement of the course to meet the professional regulators' requirements for general education when they progress to level 4.
• All offers of places are conditionally based on:
• Satisfactory outcome of an interview.
• Occupational Health clearance.
• Satisfactory outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
• Applications from candidates with disabilities are considered, and assessment of abilities and needs is undertaken sensitively.
• The safety of potential students is an important consideration.
