- Electives and Additional Research (39 credit hours): 12 hours research, 9 hours data engineering/analytics coursework, 12 hours electives.
- Data engineering or data analytics specialization options.
Assessment
- Qualifying exams covering required core courses within one year of matriculation.
- Dissertation prospectus and oral defense within one year following completion of 60th credit hour and fourth year in the program.
- 12 credit hours of DSE 792 Research required, with a maximum of 24 allowed.

- Applicants must possess a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Applicants must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in the final 60 hours of their primary bachelor's degree program or a 3.00 GPA in a pertinent master's degree program.
International Students (Outside the EU):
- Applicants must satisfy the prerequisites for both the Graduate College and the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering.
- Applicants with a bachelor's or master's degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution are eligible to apply.
- Applicants must achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in the final 60 hours of their primary bachelor's degree program or a 3.00 GPA in a relevant master's degree program.

Language Proficiency Requirements:
Applicants whose native language is not English must provide evidence of English proficiency, regardless of their current residency.
Acceptable forms of proof include:
- TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - Minimum score of 80 on the internet-based test (iBT)
- IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - Minimum score of 6.5 overall, with no sub-score lower than 6.0
- PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) - Minimum score of 54
Deficiency Courses:
If assigned deficiency coursework upon admission, students must complete those classes with a grade of "B" or higher within two semesters of entering the program. Deficiency courses do not contribute to the total credit hours required to finish the degree program.
