Entry Requirements:
Undergraduate UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man Students
- You would typically need to achieve three qualifications at grade C or above, usually including GCSE English Language.
- Some programmes will require specific GCSEs of grade B including Maths, English Language, and Science if relevant to your subject area to be considered for an unconditional offer.
- BTECs and other level 3 Vocational qualifications are accepted on most programmes. Typically an NDT, BTEC Extended Diploma or 3 A levels are required for these programmes. This is intended as a guide only (please refer to specific programme entry pages for the latest official entry requirements). # Higher National Certificates/Diplomas and Access courses /
Graduate Certificates/Advanced Diplomas
As with BTEC students, most undergraduate courses will consider applications from HNC and HND level students. Equivalent UCAS points vary between 32 and 64 depending on your subjects, and you can find course-relevant details on the individual programme entry or search pages. To check equivalencies and get a better idea of where our requirements sit in the national league table visit https://courseinformation.hefc.wales . Most access course applicants and graduates entering programmes are expected to take or provide evidence of successful completion of a related course at QCF Level 3 / RQF Level 4 of at least 30 credits in Higher Education Level 3. Again, course equivalence can be checked at https://courseinformation.hefc.wales / .
- Please be aware that most of the above applies to standard entry considerations. Entry onto courses requiring an interview, portfolio presentation or evidence of professional qualifications etc, will normally depend on the assessment of those elements when compared against course expectations, and standard qualifications may, therefore, differ.
Mature Candidates (21 years+) Applicants aged 21 or older on entry with no formal qualifications may meet courseentry requirements by means of satisfactory completion of an Access to HigherEducation Diploma from a recognised Access provider on an approved/accreditedprogramme. Entry to courses requiring additional skills tests, auditions, interviews or portfolio presentations will still demand the fulfillment of those criteria where applicable.
International entry requirements We welcome applications from the world’s top students and welcome the wealth of diversity they bring to our campus community. Each one of our programmes sets its own entry point and may require specific qualifications on top of your general or higher education requirements if relevant to your subject area For most programmes, this translates as one of the following entry criteria:
#Qualifications from Canada , the USA, China and India
Canadian high school qualifications - Minimum average of 75-80% in six academic Grade 12 subjects (for the University of Calgary you must have obtained your high school diploma within the last five years). US university qualifications - GPA 2.75-3.0 (out of 4 depending on the course) . You may be required to submit standardized test evidence, such as SAT or ACT . Hong Kong Qualifications - Grade Average in five GCE Advanced Levels . UK and Ireland qualifications in Hong Kong, such as GCE A' Levels , International A' Levels , or Advanced GNVQs . Please check course pages (and our International website ) for relevant entry requirements in this instance; Indian Universities - Bachelor's Degree at recognized universities with First or Upper Second-Class Honors. An equivalent First Bachelor-level degree qualification would be required from other international universities. Chinese Universities (and International Baccalaureate Courses at approved Chinese International Schools ) - Gaokao of 70-90% depending on the course (specific subject requirements may apply; please ask us for confirmation) . Entry into a Chinese International Programme and then application to study here may well depend on successful submission of a satisfactory APS score - please also enquire directly to confirm the need or otherwise for this . IB requirements as below . As an indication of relative standings amongst international qualifications as compared to the UK grading system please go to https://www.educationuk.org/global/qualifications/qualifications-comparisons-index/.
#Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma provides access across most programmes but requirements can vary slightly. We typically ask for 32-38 points including the completion of Higher Level subjects where stated at least five subjects passed - and English at either HL SL (but usually HL) with a minimum grade equivalent to a UK ' C ' with 5 and 6 points. You require a minimum average or six for us to seriously examine the application, though the number needed for an offer will increase with competition levels, and most programmes requiring higher point totals. There may be more detailed subject prerequisites on some degrees and you are advised to check their pages carefully (or get our specialist advisors to check when seeking an offer); however, the more 'standard points' expectations set out above generally apply. Please be aware these points are intended only as initial indicators. Requirements have been known recently to go upwards at some universities by two or three additional points for certain high demand programmes on an annual competitive basis, although Coventry would normally seek to keep our requirements consistent (or very closely so) - but please make your decision to apply carefully or seek our latest expert opinion should you have any uncertainties about whether yours are likely to fall in our normal and usual successful ranges. As your requirements may also come down to competition on the day (as much has to do with numbers applying and meeting or missing thresholds as opposed to absolute expectations) you are also encouraged.
