The Graduate Diploma of Quantitative Marine and Antarctic Science (S6V) is an introductory program for PhD candidates in Quantitative Marine Science. It provides a foundation in marine and Antarctic science, including research methods, data analysis, and communication skills. Students choose four elective units from a range of topics, such as physical oceanography, marine biogeochemistry, and fisheries science.

Degree Overview:

The Graduate Diploma of Quantitative Marine and Antarctic Science (S6V) provides an introduction to key aspects of Marine and Antarctic Science for students enrolled in the Quantitative Marine Science PhD programs (QMS). The course is reserved for QMS PhD candidates; all other students should refer to S6Z Graduate Diploma of Marine and Antarctic Science.


Objectives:

  • Critically apply discipline-specific research knowledge, skills, competencies, and awareness in preparation for study at a higher degree by research level.
  • Solve complex problems in marine and Antarctic Science using scientific, environmental, and policy principles
  • Communicate complex issues and ideas relevant to quantitative marine and Antarctic science with specialist and non-specialist audiences.

  • XGR501 Introduction to Higher Degree by Research
  • XGR502 Communicating Research
