Students in the Veteran Studies program at Saint Leo University will have the opportunity to examine the human experience of military conflict throughout history and in diverse cultures while developing a strong foundation in research and written and verbal skills.


Learning Experience:

The Veteran Studies B.A. is a 120-credit hour program that can be completed in four years of full-time study. The program is offered on campus and online.


Objectives:

  • Articulate how Veterans have influenced and been influenced by their communities.
  • Critically interpret how Veteran identity is shaped by service and post-service experiences.
  • Successfully analyze how the Veteran perspectives, as described by complex sociocultural and political systems, have changed over time.

Outline:

The Veteran Studies B.A. curriculum is interdisciplinary, drawing on courses from a variety of disciplines, including history, sociology, political science, psychology, and literature. The program's core courses include:

  • Introduction to Veteran Studies
  • Veteran Identity and Culture
  • The Veteran Experience in History
  • The Veteran Experience in Literature
  • The Veteran Experience in Film
  • The Veteran Experience in the Arts
  • The Veteran Experience in Politics
  • The Veteran Experience in Society
  • In addition to the core courses, students will choose elective courses from a variety of disciplines. Students can also choose to complete a minor in Veteran Studies.
