The Master of Arts in Communication program offers three options for students: thesis, project, or exam. Students complete 30 hours of coursework, including required courses in research methods and communication inquiry. They also select restricted elective courses from a wide range of topics in communication, such as persuasion, conflict resolution, and organizational culture.

Program Requirements:
The M.A. in Communication requires students to complete the following:
- Early in their graduate work, prepare a program of study in consultation with an assigned graduate advisor
- Successfully meet all conditions stipulated upon entry into the program
- Complete, with an overall GPA of at least 3.0, a minimum of 30 hours of approved coursework
Required Courses:

Degree Requirement & Restricted Electives:
(24 hours) Students choose one of the following three options:
Option I - Thesis:
(24 hours)
- A candidate completes original research under the supervision of a guidance (thesis) committee
- This research must be suitable for publication, written in a form acceptable to the Graduate School, and defended in an oral examination

(18 hours) In consultation with the graduate advisor, select 18 credit hours of COMM courses from the list below.
Option II - Project:

Option III - Exam:
