Overview:

The PhD research programs at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) allow students to join existing research projects or explore their own interests in Film Studies and Media Studies, supported by the expertise of the university's staff.


Objectives:

  • Provide students with the opportunity to conduct original research in Film Studies and Media Studies.
  • Develop students' research skills and knowledge in the field.

Program Description:

  • Students are assigned two supervisors, with additional staff members available if necessary.
  • Supervisors have expertise in various areas of film, media, and popular culture, including digital media theory and practice, network culture and media research, cinema and sexuality, violence and spectatorship, contemporary European cinema, television genres, and popular music.
  • Students conduct their research in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment with strong links to research networks within the university and the wider community.
  • The university hosts and participates in research-oriented events, including seminars, book launches, gallery events, film screenings, and international conferences.
  • Students have access to financial support for travel and conference expenses, as well as some bursaries.
  • Students receive training in research ethics, presentations, intellectual property, and digital scholarship.
