Shibaura Institute of Technology
Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) has maintained “learning through practice” as the philosophy in education of engineers ever since Tokyo Higher School of Industry and Commerce, the predecessor to SIT, was established in 1927. In response to the recent progress in the globalization of the economy, SIT is providing a wide range of programmes that accommodate the needs of modern industry.

Services

Student services

SIT has set up a student advisory office at each campus. Trained counselors are available to offer advice to students on days when the offices are open. If necessary, the counselors can liaise between students and teaching staff or entities within SIT. They can also provide information on external counseling organizations and other sources of advice.

Housing services

Students living away from their families typically live in either shared houses, student dormitories, mansions or apartments - but bear in mind that the types of `mansion’ and `apartment’ are not quite what you may be used to. Here, a mansion is usually a concrete apartment building with three or more stories. A mansion complex is typically equipped with elevators and an auto-lock with a security camera at the main entrance. Some mansions even have doormen and cleaners for communal areas.

Library services

Each campus (Toyosu, Omiya and Shibaura) of the Shibaura Institute of Technology (SIT) has a library and students can request books from other campuses. As of April 2016, the number of books at these three libraries totaled 261,861. In addition to books, magazines and electronic journals/books are also available and can be perused using state-of-the-art systems.

Medical services

The campus health centers help students to prevent illness, monitor their health, and stay well. They also provide first aid if a student falls ill, feels unwell, or sustains an injury. Students are welcome to visit the health centers to discuss any health-related concerns or problems.

Student Life

Campus life

There are three main campus sites, namely, Toyosu, Omiya and Shibaura.

Sports facilities

S.I.T Athletic Gym is located on the ground floor of the Toyosu Campus. The gym can be used for free by students who are taking courses. We advise all the students to use the gym for staying fit and healthy.

Accreditation

Every Japanese universities have to undergo an evaluation once every 7 years by the certified evaluating agency from 2004. SIT is accredited by the Japan University Accreditation Association (JUAA).
