Degree Overview:

The 2-Year MSc in Management Control & Sustainability Performance program at Audencia integrates the challenges of sustainable finance and global performance management. Upon completion, graduates possess recognized technical and professional expertise in management control and environmental accounting. The program prepares students for dual certification (Carbon Accounting from the French Carbon Accounting Association / IMA1 from the International Institute of Management Accountants). Curriculum includes multi-capital accounting, decision-making in complex systems, and managing paradoxes, utilizing role-playing and case studies. The program aims to teach students how to manage global environmental, social, and economic performance, integrating them to communicate the organization's overall performance and help companies transition to sustainable development, complying with European regulations on environmental and social performance and reporting. This program trains students in the strategic management and reporting of corporate financial and environmental performance criteria. Objectives include understanding the latest developments in management control and reporting (incorporating extra-financial criteria), assessing strategic alignment with long-term sustainable performance, applying data science techniques to improve organizational efficiency, acquiring professional ethics, assessing legal compliance, and transforming companies by integrating sustainable development practices. The first year of study is compulsory in Nantes.


Outline:

The program is structured into two years. The first year includes comprehensive training in fundamental management areas: Financial Analysis, Management Control, Strategic Management, Entrepreneurial project & business plan, Business Simulation, Customer Experience & Branding, Financing an International Project, Managing and leading a Team, Cyber Security, Foreign language, and Sport. It also incorporates GAIA courses (Ecological & Social Transition Management) covering ecology and biodiversity, climate science for business, geopolitical strategies of energy and technology, impact finance, nature-inspired innovation & marketing, strategizing and ethical challenges, spreading impact, a consulting project for sustainable business, introduction to research methods, foreign language, and Sport. Specific courses listed include: Systemic Thinking, Complexity and Strategy; Ecology and Biodiversity or Environmental and Social Impact Assessment and Accounting; Ethics and Governance; Enterprise Valuation; Decision Analysis; Performance Analysis; Financial Impact and Management Control; Data Management and IT; Internal Control and Risk Management; Internal Audit; CMA Training Part I; CMA Training Part II; Principles-Based Framework for Sustainability and Future Fit; and a Serious game on Sustainability Performance. The first year concludes with an internship or work experience in France or abroad, followed by a Master's Thesis in the second year. The program uses alternating theoretical and practical sequences (face-to-face or distance learning) with business simulations, case studies, and interactive lessons.
