Program Overview

The program offers five specialization areas, emphasizes hands-on experience from the first semester, and includes modules in key qualifications like business administration and technical English. Graduates are highly sought after for leading engineering roles in both German and international job markets.

Program Outline

From the fourth semester onward, students specialize in one of five areas: Automation Technology, Electrical Power Engineering, Information Technology, Mechatronics, or Microelectronics. The program emphasizes a quick and agile response to innovations, incorporating new, future-oriented subjects as elective modules each semester. In addition to technical content, the program includes modules in Technical English and Fundamentals of Business Administration, along with non-technical electives, to develop key qualifications. The program includes extensive practical elements from the first semester, such as practical training in state-of-the-art laboratories, teamwork, independent project realization, field trips, and a multi-month practical phase involving regional businesses. The program culminates in a scientific bachelor’s thesis. Graduates can continue their studies at HSD with a four-semester master's program in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. The main objective of the faculty is to provide a solid, high-quality education, intellectual challenge, and broadened horizons, preparing students for leading engineering roles in German and international markets. The language of instruction is primarily German.

Outline:

The program is structured across six semesters.

  • Semesters 1–3 (Basic Technical Modules): Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering, Fundamentals of Computer Science, Mathematics, Fundamentals of Natural Sciences, Components, and Circuit Engineering.
  • Semesters 4–5 (Technical Specialization Modules): Students choose one specialization area and take related modules.
  • Information Technology: Digital Information Processing, Embedded Systems, Fundamentals of the Internet, IT Security, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Machine Learning, Signals and Systems Theory, Software Engineering.
  • Mechatronics: Electrical Machines, Functional Safety and Model-Based Development, Communications Systems, Power Electronics, Computers in Automation Systems, Control Engineering, Sensor Systems and Signal Processing, Technical Mechanics.
  • Microelectronics: Assembly and Packaging Technology, Design of Integrated Circuits, Semiconductor Manufacturing, Fundamentals of Semiconductors, Microelectronics, Microelectronic Sensors, Signals and Systems.

Teaching:

The program uses a combination of lectures, exercises, and extensive practical elements. Practical training takes place from the first semester onward in state-of-the-art laboratories. Students work in teams and independently on projects in small groups. Field trips and a multi-month practical phase provide real-world experience and potential job opportunities. The program also incorporates key qualification development through modules in Technical English and Fundamentals of Business Administration, as well as non-technical electives.

Careers:

Graduates are prepared for leading engineering roles with solid technical expertise and practical know-how in the German and international job markets. The demand for IT and electrical engineers is high, leading to numerous high-paying entry-level job offers for junior engineers.

Other:

The program's module content is adapted to reflect innovations in all specialization areas. New, future-oriented subjects are added as elective modules each semester.
