Degree Overview:
The Professional Pilot BSc program at the University of Nyíregyháza aims to train professionals who are knowledgeable in aviation and capable of working as professional pilots. Graduates will be able to support air operations, ground handling, and transport operations at aircraft operators and organizations, and conduct compliance monitoring and safety management activities. With sufficient professional experience, they can meet the requirements for nominated post-holders. The program fulfills the requirements for ATP (A) integrated training (Airline Transport Pilot, Aircraft). Graduates are also prepared for MSc-level studies. The first year includes basic technical studies, Principles of Flight, and Aviation English. After the first two semesters, students begin practical flight training. In addition to aviation subjects, students receive a strong engineering foundation in mechanics, mathematics, and technical drawing. The program includes an Air Line Pilot specialization, leading to ATPL(A) theory, CPL(A) (commercial pilot license) ME/IR (A) (multi-engine instrument rating), Night (VFR), and MCC (Multi Crew Cooperation) upon successful completion. Successful completion also requires passing Civil Aviation Authority exams in Air Law, Aircraft General Knowledge (Airframe/Systems/Power plant, and Instrumentation, Mass and Balance, Performance, Flight Planning and Monitoring, Human Performance, Meteorology, General Navigation, Radio Navigation, Operational Procedures, Principles of Flight, VFR and IFR Communications).
Outline:
The program is structured across 7 semesters (3.5 years) and includes a total of 210 ECTS credits. The curriculum includes both theoretical and practical components.
Semester 6:
Business Law, Automatization and Control II, Thesis I, Airplane Instruments and Apparatus II, Airframes and Systems II, Flight Performances and Planning II, Operations Procedures, Flight Practice IV.
Semester 7:
Human Resource Management, Thesis II, Aviation Safety, Flight Practice V, Multi-Crew Cooperation. Practical training comprises 140 flight hours, 40 hours of simulator training (FNPT II), and 20 hours of Multi-Crew Cooperation (FNPT II). A minimum score of 60 out of 100 points is required for successful completion of the entrance exam. The first-year students must also undergo a Class 1 medical certificate and a psychological aptitude test before starting flight training. The program involves both theoretical classroom instruction and extensive practical flight training.

Based on the last 10 years of experience, graduates have career prospects as first officers at airlines and flight instructors at approved training organizations.

The program is offered full-time in English in Nyíregyháza, Hungary. The Institute of Technology and Agricultural Sciences houses the program, headed by Dr. Balázs GÁTI. The program starts in September. The application for the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship program for the 2025/2026 academic year is closed. The next application period will begin in November 2025.
