This Higher National Level 4 Flex – IT Security program is a short course offered as part of a longer HNC program or as a standalone module. It uses blended learning, combining face-to-face and online sessions. The program introduces students to decision-making in software development, exploring different lifecycle models and their application in various project environments. A practical software development lifecycle project allows students to apply theoretical knowledge and build confidence using relevant tools and techniques. Upon completion of this unit, students will have developed essential skills like effective communication, critical thinking, analysis, and reasoning, crucial for employment and academic success. The qualification gained is a Generic award - no awarding body Non regulated provision, Level 4, ICT for Users.


Outline:

The program covers fundamentals of cybersecurity, threats and vulnerabilities, and security measures and protocols. The course duration is 12 weeks, starting in September 2025, and is delivered part-time at the David Hockney Building. Each module is worth 15 credits. Completing one, two, or three modules results in a Certificate of Unit Credit (CoUC). Completion of 8 units awards an HNC. Students can progress to other units, then to an HNC or HND.


Assessment:

Assessment methods include written assignments, group work, and individual and group presentations.

The teaching method is blended learning, a combination of face-to-face and online delivery sessions.
