The Faculty of Communication and Mass Media offers a dual-degree MSc in Digital Media Programme in partnership with the British University in Egypt and London South Bank University. The program requires students to complete 33 credits.


Outline:

The MSc in Digital Media Programme is structured across four semesters.


Semester 1:

Includes three compulsory modules:

  • Digital Media Policy, Law, Ethics, and Regulations (MMCOM 602):
  • This module explores policy, legislation, and practice in relation to new and digital media, comparing them to traditional media regulations. It also examines the challenges posed by digital media and transnational media to national authorities' ability to legislate.
  • Mass Communication in Digital Age (MMCOM 604):
  • This module explores the challenges facing media industries in the digital age and the adaptation needed for producing and distributing digital media content. It examines the future of traditional media (journalism, radio, television, cinema) in the context of information revolutions and their integration with new and digital media.

Semester 2:

Includes three compulsory modules:

  • Media Digital & Theories Communication (MMCOM 600):
  • This module explores the evolution of mass media theories in response to digital and new media, globalization, and post-industrial society.
  • Digital Media Research Methods (MMCOM 601):
  • This module covers methods for conducting scientific research on digital media, focusing on new approaches and models using digital, quantitative, and qualitative tools (content analysis, speech analysis, information analysis, electronic public opinion measurements).
  • Digital Media Delivering and Distribution (MCS 609):
  • This module explores how digital technology has transformed media content delivery, particularly through virtual platforms. It introduces digital applications for tracking public use and building databases for content development and marketing.

Semester 3:

Includes one compulsory module and two optional modules from a choice of three:

  • Thesis Proposal Designing and Writing (THMMCOM 700):
  • This module teaches students how to develop a thesis proposal, including scientific research rules, literature reviews, and methodological and theoretical steps.
  • Optional Modules (choose two):
  • Reporting for Converged Newsrooms (MMCOM 605):
  • This module explores methods for producing integrated news and journalism using multimedia, covering content compilation, processing, and distribution through converged newsrooms or multimedia editorial platforms.
  • Advertising & Digital Marketing (MMCOM 607):
  • This module covers the foundations of digital advertising and digital marketing, including consumer behavior analysis, brand management through digital media, and planning, implementing, and evaluating advertising and marketing campaigns.
  • Film Industry in the Digital Age (MMCOM 608):
  • This module explores the transformation of the global film industry by digital technology, from low-budget to blockbuster filmmaking, covering pre-production, filming, post-production, distribution, marketing, and audience engagement.

Semester 4 onwards:

Thesis (THMMCOM 701).


Other:

The program is a dual degree offered by The British University in Egypt and London South Bank University. Students are required to complete 33 credits. BUE students are exempted from the placement test. Additionally, links to a thesis roadmap and postgraduate research seminars are included.

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:

A bachelor's degree in Mass Media with a minimum grade of "Good" from an Egyptian university or an equivalent university recognized by the Higher Council of Universities. For universities using a credit hour system, a minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. An IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent). Students of the British University in Egypt (BUE) are exempt from this requirement.


Language Proficiency Requirements:

An IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent) is required. BUE students are exempt.
