Program Outline

Degree Overview:

The Management and Conservation of Natural Areas program is a specialization program focused on the conservation of natural areas and their resources, and their management within the framework of sustainable development. It addresses conservation aspects at the genetic, species, and community levels, emphasizing modern methods for ensuring their perpetuation. Management aspects cover terrestrial and marine spaces, and the interaction between urban and natural environments. The program is designed for two groups: individuals without a college degree seeking quality education in this field, and university graduates wanting practical specialization to broaden career opportunities. The general objective is to acquire the knowledge necessary for the conservation of natural areas and their resources, and to determine their management within a correct territorial plan for sustainable development. Specific objectives include establishing natural, socioeconomic, and legislative criteria for managing natural landscapes; familiarizing oneself with international agreements and treaties on biodiversity and natural area management; analyzing causes of biodiversity loss and potential solutions; identifying critical factors and levels of biodiversity monitoring and indicators; learning about land biomes, their distribution, characteristics, flora, fauna, and human pressures; determining the historical evolution of territorial exploitation models; and evaluating national and international conservation strategies for resource efficiency and global strategy prioritization.

Outline:

The program consists of 30 credits and takes 6-9 months to complete, depending on student dedication. It comprises eight classes, including practical case studies on natural space management. The classes are structured to provide both theoretical and practical knowledge, covering fundamental concepts and their organizational, social, and technological implementation. The aim is to provide a global view of natural landscapes through multidisciplinary topics. The subjects are independent but follow a pedagogical sequence from less to greater complexity. Each subject is divided into thematic units or chapters with printed materials for study. The subjects and their credit allocation are as follows: Natural Areas in the context of societies (3 credits) Biodiversity (4 credits) Natural Landscapes. Typology Processes (5 credits) Uses of Natural landscapes (4 credits) The Conservation of species and natural areas (5 credits) The management of natural landscapes (5 credits) Ecologic Restoration (4 credits)

Teaching:

The program is a distance learning program, not subject to classes, and there is no established initiation date. Students can enroll at any time, space permitting. The teaching staff includes numerous Doctors and Professors from various universities across Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, and other countries. The program director is Dr. Eduardo García Villena, Director of the Environmental Area at the International Ibero-American University (UNINI). The program emphasizes a practical approach to the study of conservation and management of natural areas, considering sustainable development and spatial planning. The program aims to provide students with a global view of natural landscapes through related multidisciplinary topics.
