The Executive Master in Sceneggiatura (Screenwriting) leverages IULM University's experience in training entertainment industry professionals. It blends theoretical knowledge, critical reflection, and hands-on labs led by renowned Italian and international authors and screenwriters. The program aims to produce professionals who can balance individual creativity with production demands. The faculty includes prominent figures in Italian cinema and literature. IULM acknowledges that talent isn't taught, but the program aims to help talented individuals turn their abilities into a profession. The program targets graduates or professionals wanting to test their writing skills in film and television. Ideal candidates possess strong cultural competence, excellent Italian language skills, and a passion for storytelling.

Outline:

The program is structured into three parts:

• FIRST PART (HEAD): Theory: This section covers prolegomena of screenwriting; structural models; genres; and script analysis.
• SECOND PART (BELLY): Technique: This section focuses on the practical aspects of screenwriting, including: the process from subject to treatment and script; creating a compelling incipit; writing with images (showing, not telling); rewriting exercises; using screenwriting software (e.g., Final Draft); understanding language elements like scene headers, action lines, and dialogue; the concepts of expressible and inexpressible; economy of selection; developing a LOGLINE and OUTLINE; character development; recognizing explanation as a failure of dramatization; conflict and resolution; and achieving closure.
• PART THREE (LEGS): Practice: This section covers the editing process, clarity, script formatting, and networking within the film industry.
The program lasts 4 months and is full-time.
