The Fashion and Creative Industries degree program at IULM equips students with the knowledge and skills to contribute to the communication and creative processes within the fashion and creative industries. Program Outline

The program equips students with the critical-theoretical knowledge of various artistic-visual languages necessary for understanding fashion, along with the methodological and practical tools to tackle the challenges of conceiving, developing, and promoting fashion creations and products from other creative industries. The program's objective is to produce graduates who can interpret the fashion and design sectors through art and artistic expression, enhance these sectors through communication disciplines, link fashion and design to related fields like art, photography, and cinema, and apply acquired knowledge critically and originally to devise concepts for events and fashion shows. Graduates will also be skilled in creating inclusive and intercultural communication products for web and social media, designing creative visuals, developing marketing and communication strategies, researching trends, and understanding intellectual property regulations. The program emphasizes a blend of historical-artistic-cultural knowledge and socio-anthropological understanding, combined with economic and legal expertise.

The three-year Bachelor's degree program is taught in Italian and is structured around two main learning areas:

  • Historical-artistic-cultural area: This area provides historical-critical knowledge and skills for understanding fashion and creative industries; the languages of contemporary visual arts for interpreting fashion across different media; and the history of fashion, design, and Made in Italy.
  • The curriculum includes core subjects common to the first two years and specialized modules in either Fashion or Creative Industries and Design from the third year onwards. Core subjects include: History of Contemporary Art, Art and Media, History of Fashion, History of Design, Semiotics of Creativity, Archives of Creative Industries, Aesthetics of Fashion and Design, and Interculturality, Sustainability, Inclusiveness.

Fashion Specialization

modules include: Innovation Fashion Design, Effective Communication Techniques III (visual communication) workshop, Visual Merchandising workshop, Workshop on the Conception and Creation of Fashion Events, and Fashion Show Direction workshop.


Creative Industries and Design Specialization

Founded in 1968 by the Fondazione Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori, IULM University (originally I.U.L.M.) was established to address labor market needs through modern language training.
