Program Overview


The Award in Business Environment from CMBS provides a thorough understanding of business organizations, industries, and their external environment. It equips learners to analyze business functions, identify stakeholders, assess external factors, and evaluate their impact on business operations. Assessed through an exam, project, and journal, this 2-month program is ideal for those aspiring to or working in the finance industry and is accredited at Level 5 by the MFHEA.

Degree Overview:

The Award in Business Environment is designed to equip learners with a comprehensive understanding of the different types of organisations that exist in the business world, including their structures and functions and the competitive landscape within which they operate. This certification will equip students with the knowledge, skills, and autonomy required to understand and monitor the interactions between businesses, key stakeholders and the external environment. Learners will learn how to:

  • Analyse the primary functions of organisations and businesses, along with the key reasons for their establishment
  • Identify and categorise the various industries within which business organisations operate
  • Distinguish between different types of stakeholders such as investors, employees, customers etc and understand their primary goals
  • Describe various political and legal factors and assess their impact on business operations
  • Identify and evaluate how social and demographic trends, technological advancements, and environmental considerations influence business organisations

Assessment:

The Award in Business Environment will be assessed through the use of an exam, an individual project and a reflective journal.

  • This qualification is awarded by Central Mediterranean Business School (CMBS).
  • This qualification is accredited by the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority.
  • MFHEA deems the Award in Business Environment to be at Level 5 in the Malta Qualifications Framework and the European Qualifications Framework for lifelong learning.
  • This course is intended for those who are aged 18+ and aspire to work or are already working in the finance field.

Admission Requirements

Entry Requirements:

  • Diploma pegged at MQF Level 4 or equivalent in a relevant field: This means that applicants must have a diploma that is recognized as being equivalent to Level 4 on the Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF).
  • This could include diplomas from other countries, as long as they are deemed to be equivalent to a Level 4 diploma in Malta.
  • Matriculation certificate with at least 2 A-levels and 3 Intermediates: This means that applicants must have a Matriculation certificate, which is a qualification awarded in Malta after secondary education.
  • They must have at least two A-levels and three Intermediate level passes.
  • Matsec certificates with 4 passes at Grade 5 or better: This means that applicants must have Matsec certificates, which are qualifications awarded in Malta after secondary education.
  • They must have at least four passes at Grade 5 or better.
  • Relevant work experience: This means that applicants may be considered for admission if they have relevant work experience, even if they do not meet the other entry requirements.

Language Proficiency Requirements:

  • Non-native English speakers must also have an English qualification such as CEFR or IELTS 5.5: This means that applicants who are not native English speakers must provide evidence of their English proficiency.
  • They can do this by providing a certificate from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or by achieving a score of 5.5 or higher on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
