Program Overview

Architecture is one of the most enjoyable and creative of disciplines, incorporating the exercise of imagination, organizational ability, and the intelligent observation of almost every facet of human and natural activity. Students entering the field deal with a fast-changing world in which imagination, understanding, and the creative use of resources are essential, in addition to the development of aesthetics, and technology.

In general, architecture addresses the human feelings and senses as it adds new dimensions to buildings: artistic, philosophical, and psychological.
Students of architecture address the complex design problems in order to accommodate different human activities, while considering multiple issues of climate and energy, technology and structure, and the combined factors of internal and external environments.

In this sense, architectural education is a superb exercise in analysis, understanding, and problem solving. Furthermore, an architect is the only person trained to have a total understanding of buildings and the built environment.

The main qualities that are needed to study architecture:

  • Competence in mathematics and science
  • Skilled in free hand drawing, sketching, and coloring
  • A good appreciation of current and updated technologies in building and design
  • A good appreciation of social and environmental considerations
  • Precision and an appreciation of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Critical scientific thinking
  • Display professional responsibilities, as well as ethical, societal, and cultural concerns
  • Ability to work efficiently and communicate effectively, within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to recognize the importance and need of self-learning as well as lifelong learning
  • A photographic memory

The Educational Philosophy:

At Future University, the main aim of the Department of Architectural Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology is to graduate qualified and well-trained architects, planners, and interior designers, who are capable of competing and establishing a distinctive role between architects and planners on both a local and global scale.

The Department of Architectural Engineering at Future University creates an environment that allows its students to fully develop their skills and abilities by having them engage in a wide range of experiences in order to help them discover their own direction and to excel in their professional careers. This is achieved through providing an excellent study program, in addition to appropriate tutorial support, provided by enhanced capabilities and distinctive faculty staff who possess a broad range of experience, gained from local and international exposure at both the theoretical and practical level, in order to fulfill the department's aim.

Overview of the Program:

The Department of Architectural Engineering offers a bachelor of science (BSc.) program in Architectural Engineering that is based on a five-year (ten-semester) credit hour system. The program starts with a year of general introduction of studying basic sciences in engineering, followed by four specialized years of studying architecture.

The program aims to develop a creative, diverse, and rigorous approach to design from the outset. Most of the design teaching relies on a one-to-one tutorial basis with frequent review sessions. Nearly all design instructors and tutors are practicing architects or are design specialists who bring innovative design ideas to the faculty. History and theory, technology, human studies, and professional studies courses support the design work in each year and are assessed through a combination of coursework, essays, and examinations. To complete the BSc in Architectural Engineering, a student has to complete 175 credit hours during his/her study successfully.

Why Architecture at Future University in Egypt?

To combine theory with practice, the educational philosophy of the Department of Architectural Engineering calls for utilizing the real environment as an open textbook. This is achieved by conducting several field trips to selected sites. At least one field trip is conducted per semester for every course. Field trips usually cover various aspects of architectural knowledge, giving FUE students a real life experience, in addition to that gained in the classroom.

Students joining the department will always experience a friendly environment. Students are taught by highly qualified professors and instructors, who are experts in their fields. Academically and professionally, they always convey their expertise and innovative design ideas to the faculty, thus giving department an extra edge over any other university in Egypt.

Added value for studying Architecture in terms of skills:

Studying architecture in this faculty provides its students with the following skills and capabilities:
  • Define and analyze different design problems
  • Compare, analyze, and criticize different case studies, evaluate design alternatives, and conclude results based on analytical thinking
  • Solve architectural problems, often on the basis of limited and possibly contradicting information
  • Visualize and graphically express forms in two and three dimensions
  • Write and present technical reports and projects in accordance with standard scientific guidelines
  • Work coherently and communicate effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team in research and projects
  • Deal with others according to the code of professional ethics
  • Search for information and adopt lifelong and self-learning
  • Work in stressful environments and conditions and within constraints of time and budget.

Career opportunities (what awaits the student after graduation?)

All students of architecture from Future University find suitable professional job offers when they graduate; either locally or internationally, as the program is designed to prepare graduates to become professionals who will contribute to the socio-economic and cultural development of Egypt and the broader global community through responsible participation in the process of design, construction, and interpretation of the built environment.

Students' training and research

In order to be able to graduate, each student has to have had at least three months of training during the summer. If a student cannot get himself/herself a summer training opportunity, then the University will offer him/her one. These may cover the wide spectrum of designing in an architectural firm or a consultant's office, or supervising work on a construction site. This training actually raises the students' awareness, understanding, and comprehension of what is going on in the real professional life, whether in the field, or in a consultant's office.

During their study, students of architecture are always required to research different building types that are relevant to their design projects. They are also required to submit research in different courses, related to the topics they study.
