The program emphasizes strategic planning, assessment, and the examination of social and cultural implications of educational technology. Graduates are equipped to become visionaries in the field of educational technology, fostering a culture of innovation and promoting student success.

Objectives:

This concentration is designed to help you:

  • Reflect on the nature of technology and how it impacts both the individual and society within learning environments.
  • Strengthen skills to critically analyze and assess technology in an ethical and socially responsible manner.
  • Build familiarity with online teaching systems and understand how to leverage them to facilitate adult education.
  • Prepare future administrators/leaders to lead and apply a strategic plan for developing or enhancing operations, programs, and/or product offerings in an institution.

Outline:

  • Structure: The program consists of 10 courses, each lasting 11 weeks.
  • The number of courses taken at a time determines the overall program length.
  • Course Schedule: The standard requirement for one course is for students to spend 10 to 14 hours in weekly work, including in- and out-of-classroom work.
  • Individual Modules:
  • EDU 537 - Educational and Instructional Innovation in the Learning Enterprise:
  • Students will review, analyze, and evaluate technology innovation and leadership practices to better understand and connect through learning enterprises that foster working relationships, as learners, teachers, trainers, whether they are in K-12 communities, higher education, or corporate executives. Course materials also reflect on the nature of technology and how technology impacts both the individual and society within learning environments.
  • EDU 539 - Ethical and Social Impacts of Technology in Education: Provides learners with current educational practices and policies related to technology integration in schools so they may determine what level of support these policies provide regardless of student population.
  • Learners will also examine legal standards for fair use of materials, digital citizenship, and authenticating sources.
  • EDU 575 - Strategic Planning and Leadership in Education: Gain applied learning of strategic planning in an educational organization.
  • Prepare future administrators to lead and apply a strategic plan for developing or enhancing operations, programs, and/or product offerings in an institution.
  • EDU 599 - Education Capstone: Prerequisite: To be taken last or next to last; a grade of B or higher is required.
  • Apply the rationale for and methods of developing a professional portfolio. Create a portfolio that includes a comprehensive collection of work and artifacts to demonstrate analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of theoretical and practical knowledge gained in prior program courses. Demonstrate competency of your specific concentration area as well as of program outcomes. A supervising faculty member will evaluate your capstone project. A grade of B or higher is required.
  • Opportunities:

  • Research, analyze, and recommend changes to curricula, instructional methods, and educational materials for schools.

  • Develop educational materials for use in classroom or online settings.
  • Develop new ways to measure the effectiveness of instruction or training interventions.
  • Revise instructional materials, including lesson plans, instructor guides, and tests.
  • Suggest ways to update to curricula or delivery methods, guided by data on instructional effectiveness, performance needs, associated costs, and more.

  • Students pursuing teacher or school administrator certification in the public school system should contact their respective state offices of education as well as local school district to confirm educational requirements before beginning the program.
  • Class Size: Class size varies based on course objectives and the teaching demands of the subject matter.
  • The program consists of 10 courses, with the price of $1,680 per course. There are additional fees for textbooks and supplies, a $65 technology fee each term, and a one-time $150 degree conferral fee.
