Year One:

  • Covers physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, anatomy, genetics, cell and molecular biology.
  • Emphasizes the structure and function of the human body under normal conditions and abnormalities.
  • Includes mid-year summative assessment in the form of a written paper.
  • Teaching methods include recorded lectures, face-to-face practical and small group sessions, clinical skills sessions, and Communication for Clinical Practice sessions with simulated patients.
  • Includes a unique leadership development course in collaboration with 208 Field Hospital.
  • Ends with first clinical placements in the NHS.

Year Two:

  • Focuses on applying skills learned in the first year to clinical practice.
  • Includes four-week clinical placement blocks preceded by an 'Academic' week.
  • 'Academic' weeks include lectures, rotation-specific teaching, pre-placement sessions, Community Clinical Teaching (Primary Care), clinical skills preparation, simulation sessions, and time for student-led Research and Scholarship projects.

Year Three:

  • Requires students to undertake a four-week elective, with many choosing to study abroad during this period.

Year Four:

  • Includes Emergency and Acute Medicine and Surgery, GP placements, and a ward shadowing experience block.
  • Requires students to undertake a research project, such as an audit, Quality Improvement Project, community-based project, or specialist placement of their choosing.

  • Emphasizes assessment for learning through quizzes, anatomy spotters, and formative Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs).
