Business Studies (Joint Honours)

Program Overview

This four-year program combines business and computer science/law, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of markets, organizations, and business management. Through a blend of theoretical and practical learning, students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, preparing them for careers in business, law, or further study. The program offers study abroad opportunities and a strong faculty team from Trinity Business School and the School of Computer Science and Statistics.

Degree Overview:

The B.A. (Moderatorship) Honours Bachelor Degree (NFQ Level 8) for Computer Science and Business / L.L.B/B.A Honours Bachelor Degree (NFQ Level 8) for Law and Business is a four-year program with 58 places available. The program aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in, understand, and critically evaluate practices within markets, organizations, and business management. Students will develop a depth of engagement and understanding of the various aspects of markets, organizations, and business management.

Outline:

First and Second Year:

• Introductory topics in Business
• Business topics: Management & Organization, Economics Policy, and Qualitative Methods for Business (Data Analytics)
• Second year subjects: Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Managing Climate Change, Operations Management, Creative Thinking, Innovation and Entrepreneurial Action, and Organizational Behaviour

Third and Fourth Year:

• Combination of topic areas: Human Resource Management, Contemporary Marketing Management, Consumer Behaviour, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting for Business Decisions, Business in Society, Innovation, Introduction to Fixed Income, Securities and Alternative Investments, Entrepreneurship and Business Modelling, Corporate Finance and Equity Valuation, Services, Management, Digital Technology in Operations, Organization Theory and Organizational Analysis, Investments, and Social Entrepreneurship
• Fourth year topics: Designing Social Innovations, Delivering Social Impact, Strategic Management Theory and Practice, International Business & the Global Economy, Exploring Organizational Experiences, Financial Reporting and Analysis, Derivatives, Advances in Marketing Theory and Practice, Digital Marketing, Managing People and Leading Change, Operations Strategy and Improvements, and International Finance

Assessment:

The program uses a combination of continuous assessment, essays, projects, presentations, open and closed-book examinations focusing on self-directed and experiential learning.

Teaching:

The program is taught by a team of experienced faculty members from the Trinity Business School and the School of Computer Science and Statistics. The program uses a variety of teaching methods, including lectures, tutorials, workshops, and project work.

Careers:

Graduates of the program are prepared for challenging careers in business and computer science/law, as well as positioning them for postgraduate study and research in either of these fields. Graduates are employed in a variety of roles and areas, including multinationals, consultancy and accountancy firms, the public sector, and small and medium-sized businesses.

• Students may have the opportunity to apply for a limited number of study abroad options in the third year of both programs.
