Program Overview
This graduate program provides expertise in data protection and governance through lectures delivered over two trimesters. Designed to meet the training needs for Data Protection Officers and compliance professionals, it enhances knowledge and skills in relation to data protection law and practice, aligning with the requirements of the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The program utilizes interactive teaching methods and culminating in a summative assessment.
Program Outline
Degree Overview:
The ProfDip Data Protection Law & Governance is a graduate-level program designed to enhance competence in data protection and governance. It aims to provide relevant knowledge, understanding, and skills in relation to Data Protection and Governance. The program is delivered through two-hour lectures each week over two trimesters. The Diploma is designed to meet the training needs that have developed since the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force. The GDPR has imposed significant new data protection obligations on Irish organizations, necessitating the appointment of Data Protection Officers (DPOs) with expertise in data protection law and practice. Even organizations not required to appoint DPOs are still obliged to carry out tasks such as Data Protection Impact Assessments and will benefit from training their staff in this area. This Diploma is designed to meet the training needs of Data Protection Officers and others involved in the compliance role in organizations and the legal community involved in this area.
Assessment:
The program utilizes teaching, learning, and assessment approaches such as small group teaching, academic writing, and summative examination assessments.

The program is co-ordinated by Dr TJ McIntyre of Sutherland School of Law with teaching from eminent industry specialists.
Careers:
The program is designed to meet the training needs of Data Protection Officers and others involved in the compliance role in organizations and the legal community involved in this area.
Other:
The program is a part-time option suitable for domestic (EEA) applicants. International (Non EEA) applicants currently residing outside of the EEA Region are not eligible.
