The PhD in Classics is a minimum three-year research program leading to the production of a thesis of around 100,000 words that will make an original contribution to knowledge. The program is predominantly research-based, but students will also undertake formal training in research, take language courses (Latin or Greek) at an appropriate level, and attend seminars. The program can be studied full-time or part-time.
Teaching:
The program includes formal training in research, language courses (Latin or Greek), and seminars. The School of Classics has a dedicated room for research students with an extensive reference library of texts. Students also have access to other libraries in Dublin.
Other:
The School of Classics currently has 7 students reading for the PhD. There is a regular program of research seminars, and the UCD Classical Society provides opportunities to meet like-minded students in a more informal setting.
