Program Outline

Degree Overview:

The MA in Languages and Image Studies is a new program starting in September 2023. It offers students the opportunity to acquire new language skills or refresh/extend their knowledge of languages already studied (French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish) while developing critical and analytical thinking through image-centered modules taught from a global perspective. The program aims to enhance students' language skills and critical thinking abilities by exploring image studies from a multilingual perspective. Students will engage with global cultures through the study of images, including film, art, illustration, photography, and more.

  • All students study film analysis, which they then apply to other image-centered modules, such as photography, film, art, intermediality, illustration, and more.

Students are guided in analyzing and critiquing various types of images from the perspectives of language-specific and broader cultural contexts.

Finished my Masters in Food Safety here in 2019. Quality of education is pretty good. Facilities are on point. One of the better universities in Ireland. A lot of extra curricular activities organised all round the year. No racism or any other issue as per my experience. Teaching staff is quite knowledgeable. I loved my time there. 10/10
