- Candidates are expected to carry out supervised research at the leading edge of their chosen subject, which must then be written up as a substantial thesis.
- The final stage of the MD programme is the oral or viva voce examination, in which students are required to defend the thesis to a Board of Examiners.
Other:
- Students will present a thesis completed while employed, or they will submit published work embodying research in some aspect of Medicine.
- Most students complete this programme in 5 years part-time.
- You cannot take less than 6 months to finish your research and the maximum time you are allowed is normally 5 years.
- You may start this programme at any time. Most students start in September.

Entry Requirements:
- Graduates must hold a qualification which is recognised for registration by the General Medical Council of the UK.
- Students should have been engaged for at least two years in an appropriate clinical or research setting in one or more hospitals or institutions approved by the appropriate Board of Studies and have completed the majority of the work for the degree during that employment.
Language Proficiency Requirements:
- IELTS: 7.0 overall with no less than 6.5 in all components
- The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): 69 with no less than 62 in any element
- TOEFL IBT: 100 overall with a minimum 24 in all 4 components
