Program Overview


This European Master's in Embedded Computing Systems (EMECS) is a two-year program offered in partnership with Kaiserslautern University in Germany and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Students will study the fundamentals of embedded computing systems and have the opportunity to live and study in different countries. The program prepares graduates for careers in hardware or software systems architecture, design methodology, system-on-chip design, telecommunications, automotive systems, and manufacturing.

This European master’s in embedded computing systems (EMECS) is a 2 year course run in partnership with Kaiserslautern University in Germany and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). We are experts in system-on-chip (SoC) and electronics, NTNU specialise in electronics and communications, and Kaiserslautern in embedded systems. You’ll learn the fundamentals of embedded computing systems and experience life and study in different countries. Our MSc embedded systems degree is a European-based master’s. It allows you to study in 2 countries at different universities. You'll get expert training from the: University of Southampton as a leader in system on chip electronics Kaiserslautern University for embedded systems Norwegian University of Science and Technology for electronics and communication Politecnico di Torino for embedded system and electronics designYou’ll study the fundamentals of embedded computing systems to the same education level at any of the universities. This course may be revised as a result of this. Any revision will be balanced against the requirement that the student should receive the educational service expected. Course lead This course lead for The University of Southampton is Dr Basel Halak. Dr Halak is a member of the Sustainable Electronics research group, as well as, Cyber Security group at Southampton’s Electronics and Computer Science School (ECS). Computer science and software engineering From artificial intelligence and machine learning to cyber security and the Internet of Things, we'll offer you a wide range of ways to study computer science and software engineering. Assessment:

We’ll assess you through: examscoursework in the form of: problem solving exercises lab reports literature review design exercises individual and group projects a thesis project Dissertation You’ll complete an individual thesis project in year 2 of this course. You’ll receive one-to-one supervision for this piece of work. Academic Support You’ll be assigned a supervisor at each of the 2 partner universities you attend.
