About Program
Program Overview
This full-time Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) program prepares students to become qualified art and design teachers in England and Wales. The program combines theoretical coursework with supervised practice placements, equipping graduates with the skills and knowledge to teach effectively in a variety of school settings. Upon completion, graduates earn QTS eligibility, allowing them to work as art and design teachers. Students benefit from academic and school-based support throughout the program.
Program Outline
Careers:
- Upon completion of the program, graduates will be eligible for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in addition to their PGCE award.
- Graduates will be able to work as art and design teachers in academy, state-maintained, independent, and special schools in England and Wales.
Other:
- The program is a full-time course that runs from September to June, with breaks at Christmas and Easter.
- Students will divide their time between the University and two placement schools.
- Students must pass the three master's-level modules to earn their PGCE award.
- Students will be assigned a personal academic tutor and a senior tutor.
- Students will have the support of a school-based mentor during their practice placements.

Entry Requirements:
- a 2:2 degree (UK honours degree or equivalent) in art and design or a related subject
- strong subject knowledge You'll need to cover the cost of the tests yourself.
- Secondary school classroom experience may strengthen your application.
- We do not accept IELTS in lieu of the English Language GCSE requirement.
