Program Overview


Ohio Technical Centers graduates with an industry-recognized credential can pursue an Associate of Technical Study (ATS) with a one-year Building and Industrial Technology option. Eligible students receive technical credit for their OTC program, reducing the ATS degree to 30-40 credits.

Degree Overview:

The Building and Industrial Technology: One-Year Option is a program designed for graduates of Ohio Technical Centers (OTC) who have completed a 600 or greater hour program and obtained an industry-recognized credential(s). This program allows students to earn a block of technical credit toward an Associate of Technical Study (Type B). The goal of this program is to create a statewide agreement for awarding technical credit, in addition to current statewide agreements such as Career-Technical Assurance Guides (CTAGs). Eligible students will be awarded 20-30 semester credit hours of block credit for the approved OTC program toward the relevant 60 semester hour ATS degree.

Entry Requirements:

  • Completed a 600+ clock hour program in business at an Ohio Technical Center
  • Hold an industry-recognized credential(s) approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education.
  • Approved OTC programs: Auto Collision and Repair, Auto Technology, Building/Property Maintenance, Carpentry, Diesel Mechanics, Electrician, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, Plumbing, Power Line Mechanic, Precision Machining, Welding
  • Meet the credentialing pathway requirements as determined by the applicable credit affirmation team.
