Degree Overview:

The Master of Science (MS) in Cosmetic Science program at the University of Cincinnati's James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy is designed to train students to become future leaders in the field. The program is offered online, allowing students to study part-time or full-time. The program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to develop cosmetic and personal care products that meet consumer needs and improve their quality of life.


Objectives:

The program aims to train students to:

  • Understand the physiology and pharmacology of skin and hair, as well as those associated with approved OTC drug categories.
  • Master the physical, biophysical, colloidal, and interfacial chemistry and formulation science of skin and hair cosmetic products and OTC drug products.
  • Develop expertise in experimental design, statistical evaluation, product evaluation techniques (in vitro and clinical), stability evaluations, cosmetic microbiology, consumer research, US FDA cosmetic and drug regulations, and product development approaches.
  • Gain hands-on experience through a concentrated one-week laboratory formulation session at the University of Cincinnati (optional).
