Practical Epidemiology and Statistics - Short Course
Program Overview
This 20-credit short course focuses on critical appraisal of epidemiological studies and clinical trials, interpreting and analyzing epidemiological data, and designing epidemiological studies for population health. It requires a block week of teaching from October 30th to November 3rd, 2023, and applicants must have completed Epidemiology Statistics and Research Methods or an equivalent.

Degree Overview:
This short course builds on concepts introduced in Epidemiology Statistics and Research Methods to reinforce the ideas and enable students to focus on their critical application to novel practical situations. Students will develop skills in critical appraisal of published work in health care related areas and develop more practical understanding of epidemiological and statistical methods used in the analysis of epidemiological studies.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this short course you should be able to:
- Critically appraise published papers dealing with epidemiological studies and clinical trials
- Interpret and critically appraise basic epidemiological and statistical information that they have collected/ produced themselves or that has been presented by others
- Summarise, analyse and present basic epidemiological data appropriately
- Design appropriate epidemiological studies to address population health questions
