Program Overview


This 12-session program provides an overview of neuroscience and mental disorders through lectures, discussions, and exercises.   • Session 2: Anatomy of the basal ganglia, temporal lobes, and major white matter pathways
  • Session 3: Basic concepts in the physiology of neurons, synapses, and receptors
  • Session 4: Basic pharmacology of neurotransmitters, and excitatory amino acids and how they relate to relevant neuropsychiatric disorders.
  • Session 5: Localization of cerebral functions, including the effects of injury and disease
  • Session 6: Conceptual, philosophical, and legal issues in neuropsychiatry
  • Session 7: Basic understanding of neuroanatomy
  • Session 8: Understanding of neurophysiology
  • Session 9: Understanding of brain chemistry
  • Session 10: Understanding of mind/brain dualism
  • Session 11: Understanding of philosophy of mind
  • Session 12: Understanding of psychopathology and its relationship to brain function
