Program Overview

This program focuses on writing, teaching writing, and collaboration, preparing tutors for the Writing Center. Through modules, in-person instruction, and practical tutoring experience, students develop a tutoring philosophy based on writing theories and research. Applications are accepted until March 19th, with interviews and a selection process following.

• Content: The study of writing, teaching of writing, and collaboration.
• Structure: The course is intended for tutors in the Writing Center who develop a tutoring philosophy based on writing theories and research.
• Course Schedule: The course meets in person from September 3, 2024 to December 10, 2024.
• Modules: The course is divided into two parts:
• First part:
Focuses on the study of writing and teaching of writing.
• Second part: Students tutor two hours per week.

Teaching:

• Teaching Methods: The course is taught in person.
• Faculty: The instructor is Anna Napoleone.
• Unique Approaches: The course is designed to help students develop a tutoring philosophy based on writing theories and research.

Other:

• Prerequisites: ENGLWRIT 112 with a grade of 'B' or better.
• Instructor Consent: Instructor consent is required.
The application should include:
• A formal letter explaining why the student is interested in and has potential to become a writing tutor.
• An academic writing sample (attached as a word or pdf file).
• The name and email address of the student's ENGLWRIT 112 instructor or another instructor who can speak to the student's qualifications.
• Application Deadline: Applications received after March 19th and before May 1st may be considered if seats are still available.
• Selection Process: The strongest applications will be invited to an interview and can expect a decision by finals week.
