The graduate certificate in engineering project management and leadership (PML) is designed to equip STEM professionals or current UMass Amherst graduate students in a STEM discipline with the necessary skills and competencies to manage and lead engineering and technology-based projects. The program aims to provide students with the knowledge and abilities to effectively manage and lead projects in engineering and technology-based fields.

Outline:

The certificate program requires the completion of three courses (nine credits):

• MIE 645: Project Budgeting and Finance for Engineers: This course focuses on the financial aspects of project management, covering topics such as budgeting, cost estimation, financial analysis, and risk management.
• MIE 664: Engineering Leadership and Entrepreneurship: This course explores leadership principles and practices in engineering, emphasizing the development of leadership skills, teamwork, communication, and entrepreneurial thinking.
• MIE 670: Technical Project Management or equivalent: This course provides a comprehensive overview of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques, covering topics such as project planning, scheduling, risk management, quality control, and project closure.
