Program Overview
The Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Oral Medicine) program develops skills in the non-surgical management of oral diseases and care for medically compromised patients. Through a combination of clinical sessions, didactic classes, and research, graduates are prepared for careers in oral medicine, including private practice and hospital settings. The program is accredited by the Australian Dental Council and Dental Board of Australia, ensuring recognition as a dental specialist upon completion.

Degree Overview:
Our Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Oral Medicine) will develop your skills in the non-surgical management of the full range of oral diseases as well as for the care of medically compromised patients in hospital and non-hospital settings.
Teaching:
This course is primarily clinical based with didactic sessions and a research component in each semester. This course has a mandatory professional practice work component where subject to contract with the Local Health District (LHD), you may be paid for some clinical sessions (conditions apply), once enrolled in the course.
Careers:
This course is aimed at dental graduates preparing for a career in clinical oral medicine. Graduates will be prepared for the full scope of specialist practice ranging from that in a large general hospital to private practice.
Other:
As an oral medicine student, you will learn about the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of diseases of the oral mucosa and salivary glands, facial pain and oral manifestations of systematic diseases such as HIV. You will gain an understanding of the oral health care needs of medically compromised patients, including transplant recipients, in close cooperation with the medical and surgical units of Westmead Hospital. This course is accredited by the Australian Dental Council (ADC) and approved by the Dental Board of Australia. Graduates can apply for registration as a dental specialist with the Dental Board of Australia (AHPRA).
