Degree Overview:
Our Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics) trains qualified dentists for specialist practice in prosthodontics or a specialist clinic in a hospital. Develop clinical skills in advanced restorative dentistry, contemporary prosthodontics and includes a comprehensive component of orofacial pain.
Outline:
- The program is primarily clinical based with blocks of seminars and preclinical sessions.
- You will also be required to complete a research project in the field of prosthodontics or restorative dentistry, under the supervision of an academic staff member.
- This course has a mandatory professional practice work component where subject to contract with the Local Health District (LHD), you may be paid for some clinical sessions (conditions apply), once enrolled in the course.

- The program will be directed by Associate Professor Dale Howes and presented by specialist clinicians and researchers.
- You will learn from expert dental professionals and researchers and have access to the latest technology, facilities and teaching laboratories, so you can develop your psychomotor, cognitive and affective skills and improve your confidence to perform specialist dental procedures.

Entry Requirements:
- Education:
- Bachelor of Dentistry, Doctor of Dental Medicine or Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Sydney or equivalent institution.
- OR an equivalent qualification that is recognised by the Australian Dental Board (Limited Registration for postgraduate training/supervised practice) and with a curriculum acceptable to the school.
- Demonstrated Commitment:
- Applicants must demonstrate commitment to the particular specialty they are applying for, such as through participation in short courses or continuing education programs aligned to that particular specialty.
- Interviews and Examination:
- All applications will be ranked according to academic merit after the application closing date.
- Successfully ranked applicants will be invited to participate in an interview with the Sydney Dental School.
- Some specialist programs also require applicants to sit an examination as a component of the admission process.
- Experience and Registration:
- At least two years of general dental practice.
- Completion of the primary Fellowship Examination of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons or its equivalent is desirable.
