The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) qualifies graduates to teach in high schools with a specialization in two teaching areas from a range of options. The program features three school placements, international opportunities, and prepares students for leadership roles in education. Graduates are equipped with the skills and experience to excel in diverse education roles, including classroom teaching, curriculum consulting, and educational research.

Gain a professional qualification to teach in secondary schools in just four years. Follow your passions and focus on two teaching areas from a choice of 25. With international opportunities and three school placements, we set our graduates up to be outstanding teachers and future leaders.
Outline:
The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is an undergraduate degree that gives students a professional qualification to teach in secondary schools in the areas of humanities and social sciences, mathematics and science. You will complete core units in:
- professional teaching
- Aboriginal education
- special and inclusive education
- international education
- a major in education studies. You will also complete a second major or minor, along with an additional minor or teaching area from the disciplinary pool, and units from the Open Learning Environment or the shared pool as needed to meet the requirements of the course. You will undertake professional experience and work-based training throughout your studies alongside your coursework. This course includes significant professional experience placements in schools. The placements begin in the third year of the course and the amount of responsibility and duration of the placements progressively increases until the final placement in which students are competent to teach under minimal supervision.

Other:
This course is accredited with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). Graduates are accredited to become teachers in Australia (pending completion of LANTITE). Under the Institute of Teachers Act 2004, graduates will need to be accredited for professional competence following their employment in schools. This course requires you to complete the following number of work hours: 35 hours per week over 16 weeks 560 Total hours We are ranked 3rd in Australia and 21st in the world for education (THE World University Rankings by Subject 2024). We are one of only a few Australian universities to offer three professional placements in schools, setting you up with the skills, experience and connections to graduate job-ready. Students need to meet the NSW Department of Education pre-requisites for pre-service teachers before they can register for a placement in a NSW Public School. Students need to meet any requirements relating to NSW Public Health Orders issued under the Public Health Act 2010 NSW. Failure to meet these requirements may result in students being unable to complete their degree.
