Program Overview


This combined degree in Visual Arts provides students with a comprehensive education in various artistic disciplines, including studio practice in different mediums and a customizable major from across the University of Sydney. Led by practicing artists and supported by state-of-the-art facilities, the program develops students' conceptual, technical, and research skills, preparing them for a wide range of careers in the arts and beyond.

Degree Overview:

This combined degree offers you the opportunity to develop conceptual, theoretical and technical skills to become a practicing artist with flexibility to explore other areas across the University, create a study profile that reflects your expertise and widen your career prospects.


Outline:

  • Year 1 and 2: You will be introduced to art practice in two-dimensional, three-dimensional and four-dimensional realms of creative practice at Sydney College of the Arts.
  • From second year, you will select one area of emphasis through focused assessment projects. The areas of emphasis are:
  • ceramics
  • glass
  • jewellery
  • painting
  • photomedia
  • printmedia
  • screen arts
  • sculpture
  • Year 3 and 4: Your studies will be supported by tailored workshops across many areas.
  • The art history component of the degree will help you to build research and critical skills.
  • You will also select a major from the many disciplines offered across the University of Sydney and undertake advanced coursework and a community, industry, research or entrepreneurship project.
  • In the final year of your degree, you will undertake advanced coursework where you will enhance your leadership, critical thinking and problem-solving skills and increase your employment prospects.
  • You will undertake challenging coursework and a substantial real-world project individually or in collaboration with other students.

  • You will have access to state-of-the-art facilities to produce artwork in a range of mediums including ceramics, glass, jewellery, painting, photography, printmedia, screen arts and sculpture.
