Program Overview
The Diploma of Surgery is designed for medical graduates, surgical trainees, and surgeons looking to enhance their knowledge and skills in surgical specialties and non-technical areas. Offered online through the University of Sydney, this one-year program provides a flexible learning environment with research methods and elective options. Graduates may pursue careers in various surgical specializations, including academic surgery, and are eligible to prepare for the RACS GSSE.

What you’ll study:
Our Graduate Diploma in Surgery requires the completion of 36 credit points of units of study including:
- 6 credit points of research method selective units of study
- A minimum of 24 and maximum of 30 credit points of surgery selective units of study; and
- A maximum of 6 credit points of elective units of study.
Course Structure:
- This course is offered through our interactive online learning environment, giving you the flexibility to tailor your study schedule around your lifestyle.
- All stream specific units are online, with the exception of microsurgery.
- You may find however; a couple of electives do have a face-to-face component. These can be avoided depending on your individual preferences.

- Surgeons have the opportunity to work in a range of settings, such as small regional hospitals and large metro public or private hospitals.

- Our course may also assist students who wish to pursue a higher degree by research, such as a Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy, as students will have a foundation of how to undertake research upon completing this degree.
