Program Overview


This 12-week blended learning program explores diabetes mellitus, covering its etiology, classification, and management. Students will engage in online lectures, tutorials, group work, and assessments to critically analyze diabetes care practices and develop evidence-based interventions. Led by Dr. Robert Priharjo, the program is tailored for healthcare professionals caring for individuals with diabetes in hospital or community settings.

  • carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism, and the roles of insulin and glucagon
  • diabetes mellitus: aetiology, epidemiology, classification, clinical presentation and diagnosis criteria
  • the two main types of diabetes: Type 1 & Type 2
  • the impact of diabetes: children, young people and adults (including the elderly)
  • non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions: lifestyles, oral hypoglycaemic agents and insulin
  • the management of acute and long-term diabetic complications.
  • Course structure:
  • Blended learning, with some online and some campus teaching.
  • Synchronous online lectures, face-to-face tutorials, group work and study pack.
