Program Overview

This Bachelor of Music in Music Education Concentration, Choral Option program provides aspiring music educators with a comprehensive foundation in music theory, history, choral conducting, and pedagogy. Students develop strong technical skills in voice and ensemble performance while completing coursework in music education principles and practicums. Upon graduation, they are prepared for careers teaching music in elementary and secondary schools.

Other:

• A minimum grade of C (2.000) is required in all music courses used to satisfy the requirements of the BM in Music, Music Education Concentration, Choral Option.
• Music majors concentrating in music education must also complete all required education courses with a minimum grade of C (2.000).
• Students must participate in an ensemble during each semester in which they are enrolled in MU 172A-MU 172B, MU 272Q, and MU 472Q.
At least once during the program of study this must be achieved by taking MU 408 or through another small ensemble experience.
• Students with previous keyboard experience may test out of MU 150 and use the one credit for an elective.
