Program Overview


This advanced renal care program enhances knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the renal clinical setting. Through lectures, tutorials, and work-based learning, participants explore the anatomy, pathophysiology, and management of kidney diseases. They also delve into legal and ethical considerations, nutritional management, transplantation, and psychosocial aspects. Assessment includes seminar presentations and a portfolio demonstrating achieved objectives.

Degree Overview:

This course aims to enhance your knowledge, skills, and attitudes in relation to the current renal clinical working environment. You will develop a critical understanding of care in relation to renal care and be able to deliver high-quality patient/client-centered care.


Outline:


Course Content:

  • Anatomy and Physiology: This module will cover the structure and function of the kidneys.
  • Acute Kidney Injury: This module will focus on the causes, diagnosis, and management of acute kidney injury.
  • Chronic Kidney Disease: This module will cover the causes, progression, and management of chronic kidney disease.
  • Legal and Ethical Issues: This module will discuss the legal and ethical considerations involved in renal care.
  • Dietary Management: This module will cover the nutritional needs of patients with kidney disease.
  • Long-Term Complications of CKD: This module will cover the long-term complications of chronic kidney disease, such as cardiovascular disease and bone disease.

Course Structure:

  • The course is delivered via formal keynote lectures, group and individual tutorials, discussions, e-learning, seminars, and work-based learning strategies.
  • Your individually agreed learning objectives will be outlined in a formal learning agreement using a tripartite approach (involving yourself, LJMU, and your employer).
  • You will be expected to attend LJMU on a Monday for a full day every two weeks.

Assessment:

  • You will be assessed via three seminar presentations relating to your learning agreement and a portfolio of evidence demonstrating agreed objectives within your learning agreement.

Teaching:

  • The course is delivered via a combination of formal lectures, tutorials, discussions, e-learning, seminars, and work-based learning strategies.

Other:

  • The course is under review.
  • Staff working outside of renal/ITU/HDU clinical areas are to contact the program leader, Mrs. Cheryl Grimes, to discuss workplace and ability to meet the program and assessment objectives.
