LJMU's Fashion Innovation MA provides a comprehensive understanding of industry design, technology, and commercial practice within the fashion industry. The program aims to:

Outline:

The MA is designed to develop real-world skills and allow students to explore Fashion, Innovation, and Realization project briefs in unexpected forms. The program structure includes:

  • Builds on the Fashion Research Methods module and develops alongside the Masters Project module, contextualizing individual programs of study through written text.
  • Research and Practice 1: Shared by all students studying on taught postgraduate programs at Liverpool School of Art and Design, fostering collaboration across programs.
  • Studio Practice (Fashion Innovation and Realisation): Develops creative and technical excellence in aesthetic understanding of practical and creative practice.
  • Major Project (Fashion Innovation and Realisation): Culminates in a final project that builds on research carried out during semesters 1 and 2, representing the execution of the Masters project.
  • Transdisciplinary Practice: Promotes in-depth investigation into contemporary creative practices, providing an understanding of the social, cultural, and economic environment of the city.

  • The majority of teaching takes place on Monday and Tuesday.
  • Blend of theory and practice: The program enables students to focus on their own specialist area of fashion, including communication, editorial, branding, campaign, trend prediction, retail solutions, photography, language, design, garment production, textiles, and fabrication development.

  • Faculty: The program is led by Kayla Owen, an Academic, Fashion Designer, and PhD researcher with extensive experience in the fashion industry and academia.
  • Industry partnerships: The MA introduces key industry partners and collaborators of international reputation via the LJMU Luminary Lecture series and UG visiting speaker program.
  • Collaborative learning: Opportunities to collaborate with students and staff from other MAs in Art in Science, Fine Art, Graphic Design & Illustration, Urban Design, and Exhibition Studies.
