About Program

Program Overview

This blended-learning program equips learners with knowledge and skills for designing, constructing, and managing energy infrastructure projects. It covers topics like planning, sustainability, renewable energy utilization, economics, innovation, project management, and intelligent design. Graduates can pursue advanced studies or work in industries related to energy infrastructure.

Program Outline

Degree Overview:

Today’s energy systems are highly interdependent and very heterogeneous. The infrastructure that supports the generation and distribution of energy is varied, complex and dependent on a range of practical engineering and geographical considerations. This complex infrastructure requires and understanding of a range of interdisciplinary concepts for its design, construction, operation and maintenance. This programme is designed to arm learners with the knowledge and imbue them with the practical skills for construction, analysis and management of energy infrastructure projects. The programme will be delivered over two academic semesters in a blended mode, predominately through online lectures taking place in the evenings with additional focused practical sessions taking place in AITs state of the art laboratories.

Outline:

Year 1 - Semester 1

  • Planning Process and Environmental Regulations: This module will cover the planning process for energy infrastructure projects, including environmental regulations and impact assessments.
  • Sustainable Energy Systems 1: This module will introduce students to the principles of sustainable energy systems, including renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
  • Research Methods & Professional Practice: This module will introduce students to research methods and professional practice in the field of energy infrastructure.

Year 1 - Semester 2

  • Community Energy Development: This module will explore the role of communities in energy development, including community-owned renewable energy projects.
  • Resource Economics: This module will cover the economics of energy resources, including the pricing of energy and the impact of government policies.
  • Innovation & Project Management: This module will introduce students to the principles of innovation and project management in the context of energy infrastructure projects.
  • Sustainable Energy Systems 2: This module will build on the principles of sustainable energy systems introduced in Semester 1, with a focus on advanced topics such as energy storage and smart grids.
  • Intelligent Design & Modelling: This module will introduce students to the use of intelligent design and modelling techniques in the development of energy infrastructure projects.

Year 1 - Semester 3

  • Dissertation: A research thesis based on an applied Energy Infrastructure theme

Careers:
