Degree Overview:
The MSc in Applied Software Engineering is a one-year full-time program funded by Ericsson Ireland and ICT Skillnet and delivered by TUS in Athlone. It covers the entire software development lifecycle, from the fundamentals of computing and software design to implementation and testing. The program is completely free for all participants and offers a stipend to offset living costs. It also includes a three-month paid placement with Ericsson. Upon successful completion, graduates are offered a permanent job as a software engineer with Ericsson in Athlone. The program aims to provide participants with an integrated and critical understanding of the skills and technologies used in ICT product development. It covers the fundamentals of contemporary software engineering and the tools, methods, and techniques that support its applications.

Careers:
Upon completion of the program, graduates are offered a permanent job as a software engineer with Ericsson in Athlone. Ericsson Product Development Unit in Athlone specializes in the provision of operations support systems (OSS) to telecom operators using advanced data and event management and visualization techniques.
Other:
- Screening and selection of candidates takes place every spring, with the program commencing in late June/early July.
- Entry to the program is based on a competitive selection process. Prospective candidates may be requested to attend an interview, undertake tests, or participate in other selection procedures.
- Applications are treated in strictest confidence.
- Participants will not be entitled to retain any social welfare payments while attending the course as Ericsson is funding a Bursary to assist participants with expenses.
- Candidates will undertake a course in advance of commencing the Masters to prepare and qualify them in the range of subject areas to be covered on the Masters program. This course will lead to a Certificate in Software Engineering (Level 8) and is a pre-requisite for participation in the Masters program.
- Students can progress to an appropriate Level 10 on completion.
