Degree Overview:

The Business Studies with Event Management program is a three-year, full-time undergraduate course offered at the Moylish campus of the Technological University of the Shannon (TUS). It is designed to equip students with the practical skills needed to coordinate all aspects of event management, from pre-event planning and design to post-event debriefing and evaluation.

  • To develop students' practical skills in event planning, coordination, and execution.
  • To equip students with the business competencies necessary to succeed in the event management sector.
  • To foster students' creativity and innovation in event design and execution.
  • To prepare students for leadership roles in the events sector.

Outline:

The program is structured over three years, with each year divided into two semesters. The course schedule includes a mix of lectures, seminars, workshops, and practical exercises. Students are required to complete 40 hours of work experience on events in both Year 1 and Year 2.


Year 1:


Semester 1:

  • Academic Writing: This module aims to equip students with a range of academic writing competencies.
  • Event Planning: This module focuses on event planning processes, bidding to host events, budgeting, venue selection and management, and site-inspections.
  • Principles of Financial Accounting: This module provides an introduction to the concepts, principles, and practices of financial accounting.
  • Principles of Management and Marketing: This module introduces the key concepts and theories of management and marketing.

Semester 2:

  • Business Decision Making and Applications: This module introduces learners to accounting tools and techniques that can aid management decision-making.
  • Event Operations: This module focuses on event onsite documentation and management, evaluation, building the event team, corporate social responsibility, and new technologies in the event industry.
  • Introduction to Food & Beverage Operations: This module provides learners with the knowledge, skills, and competencies to operate in a professional manner within a food and beverage environment.
  • Web Design and Implementation: This module equips learners with the skills to plan, develop, and analyze an integrated digital presence for organizations in their industry.

Year 2:


Semester 1:

  • Applied Event Planning: This module enables students to plan and design a live event, encouraging creativity and innovation.
  • Event Design: This module develops the principles of design theory and creative techniques, focusing on designing the event space, creativity, and event theming.
