Program Overview

The Master Universitario en Auditoría de Cuentas equips students with knowledge and skills to become certified auditors in Spain or internal auditors in companies. Taught by experienced professionals, the program covers auditing regulations, financial accounting, advanced management accounting, risk management, and information technology in auditing. Graduates are prepared for careers in financial departments, auditing firms, and advisory and consulting firms. The program is accredited by the ICAC, exempting graduates from part of the public exam for the Registro de Oficial de Auditores de Cuentas.

Degree Overview:

The Master Universitario en Auditoría de Cuentas is a program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a career as a certified auditor in Spain or as a qualified internal auditor in any company. The program provides a comprehensive understanding of auditing regulations, processes, financial accounting, financial statement analysis, advanced management accounting, financial statement auditing, business valuation and viability, risk management and internal control, and information technology and data analysis applied to auditing.

Outline:

The program is structured as follows:

• Normativa y procedimientos de auditoría (12 ECTS): This module covers the fundamentals of auditing, including international auditing regulations, Spanish legal regulations, auditing standards, traditional and new areas of auditing, sector-specific auditing, work processes and documentation, report preparation, and auditor skills.
• Contabilidad avanzada (6 ECTS): This module focuses on advanced accounting principles, including accounting standards, valuation rules, differences between the general accounting plan and the general plan for SMEs, sector-specific adaptations for financial and insurance entities, non-profit organizations, public entities, and regulations related to bankruptcy proceedings in Spain.
• Cuentas anuales consolidadas (6 ECTS): This module explores consolidated financial statements, including types of relationships between related companies, consolidation subjects, standards for preparing consolidated financial statements, consolidation methods and procedures, consolidated financial statement models, and M&A transactions.
• Análisis de estados financieros: This module delves into the analysis of financial statements, including the identification of key financial ratios and their interpretation, the assessment of financial performance and risk, and the development of financial projections.
• Normas internacionales de información financiera (6 ECTS): This module introduces international financial reporting standards (IFRS), including the conceptual framework, the harmonization process in Spain and Europe, the application of IFRS in Spain, the analysis of standards issued by the IASB, the application of IFRS for SMEs, and differences with the Spanish General Accounting Plan.
• Contabilidad y auditoría en el buen gobierno (9 ECTS): This module examines the role of accounting and auditing in good governance, including sustainable business transformation, transparency, ethics, and independence in corporate governance, regulations related to non-financial information, strategies for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) in accounting and auditing, risk management, quality standards in auditing, cost accounting, budgeting, and management accounting, business valuation techniques, strategic decision-making, viability and sustainability plans.
• Tecnología y digitalización en la auditoría y control interno (6 ECTS): This module explores the impact of technology and digitalization on auditing and internal control, including requirements and regulations for accounting information and IT processes, risk analysis of business IT systems, fraud trends, IT systems and substantive testing, artificial intelligence applied to control and review, cybersecurity, and data analytics techniques applied to auditing.
• Prácticas académicas externas (9 ECTS): This module provides students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting through internships at companies affiliated with the university.

The Master en Auditoría de Cuentas is accredited by the Instituto de Contabilidad y Auditoría de Cuentas (ICAC), which exempts graduates from the first phase of the public exam for entry into the Registro de Oficial de Auditores de Cuentas (ROAC).
