The Mención en Educación Musical is a qualifying degree that is part of the primary education teaching degree and can also be taken independently. It studies the fundamentals of listening and musical expression and acquires tools to enhance musical creativity and vocal expression.

Program Content:

  • The Mención en Educación Musical prepares students to understand the fundamentals of listening and musical expression with the latest methodological innovations and the incorporation of ICT into the music area.
  • Upon completion of this program and passing the 5 subjects of the mention, students will receive the Personal Academic Certificate (CAP) issued by the Universidad Europea de Madrid.
  • This certificate is valid to obtain the qualification of the mention.

Structure:

  • Module 1.
  • Listening and Musical Language: This subject will allow students to acquire the necessary and fundamental resources and strategies to teach basic musical concepts related to sound, rhythm, melody, harmony, and musical forms in the classroom.
  • In this way, learning is focused on the development of three essential skills that must be developed in the teaching and learning of music in the Music Education area of the Primary Education stage: interpretation, creation, and listening.
  • Module 2.
  • Body Expression, Rhythm, and Dance: The objective of the subject of Body Expression, Rhythm, and Dance is to provide students with the knowledge and resources necessary to offer a playful and creative music and movement education, making the most of the possibilities offered by the body as an essential element in learning.
  • It is a subject framed in the mention of Music Education in which content such as learning rhythm and structure, body percussion, traditional dances, educational dance, or the creation of simple choreographies will be developed, for a meaningful and creative learning of music and dance in the school.
  • Module 3.
  • Technological Resources Applied to Music Education: The subject of Technological Resources for Music Education offers the student a global vision of all the digital tools that we have today, that are at their disposal and to assess the pedagogical possibilities that they contribute in their implementation within the Music classroom of Primary Education.
  • In this subject, a learning of the basic concepts that have to do with the development of technological innovation at a musical level is carried out, addressing the most useful digital tools and how to use them in order to generate situations that promote the meaningful learning of students in the Primary Education stage.
  • Module 4.
  • Musical, Vocal, and Instrumental Expression: The subject Musical, Vocal, and Instrumental Expression aims to learn the knowledge and skills necessary to know the possibilities and applicability of instrumental and vocal content in the Primary Education classroom.
  • To do this, it contextualizes how musical, vocal, and instrumental expression has been addressed throughout history, as well as essential issues related to the applicability of these elements with students in the Primary stage, from the Music area.
  • Module 5.
  • Project-Based Learning Applied to Music Education: The subject Project-Based Learning Applied to Music Education seeks as its fundamental objective that students know in detail the methodological issues and principles of this way of proceeding in the teaching-learning process, as an active methodology, where the student will be the main protagonist of it.
  • In this way, you will learn how to implement this methodology in the Music classroom, in relation to a search for global, integral and competency-based learning in the development of students between the ages of 6 and 12, putting musical aspects into practice in a experiential and cooperative way with their peers, giving true importance to the process itself, beyond the final product.
